Gun Cleaning Tools: The Story of R-Tool

Lessons Learned
The story of the R-TOOL, a revolutionary gun cleaning solution, begins with me, the inventor Dakota Adcock. After enlisting in the Marine Corps at the age of 19, I completed basic training at MCRD Paris Island and then attended the school of infantry (SOI East) for my MOS training as an 0331 Machine Gunner. Upon earning my MOS, I received orders to join 3rd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. It didn't take long for me to realize that being part of a war-fighting organization like the Marines came with essential responsibilities, including the imperative to keep your weapon clean.
A Revelation
After firing thousands of rounds through my issued weapons, I realized there was a significant problem with quickly and efficiently cleaning the weapons I had been given to use and care for. Although my fellow Marines and I were issued cleaning kits, there just wasn’t an effective gun cleaning solution that could efficiently remove the carbon and debris. Brushes, scrapers, and solvents worked well to break apart the caked-on carbon, sand, and dirt, but they fell short when it came to physically removing the debris. We resorted to using old skivvy shirts as rags and various cotton swabs, which eventually did the job, but the process was painfully slow and inefficient. After discussing the issue with my peers and seniors who faced the same challenge, I set out to create a purpose-built solution, inspired by Dakota Adcock’s innovative ideas. Following countless frustrating trips to the armory, where the armorer continuously replied, “nope, still dirty,” I realized I needed a breakthrough solution. What if there was a tool like the R-TOOL that could hold a cotton swab? Something compact enough to hold the swab while fitting into the tight spaces inside the gun that trap the most carbon and debris, such as the chamber.
Dedication and Perseverance
Following this revelation, I invented the R-TOOL out of necessity. My vision was to provide the R-TOOL to Marines like me, who had a job to do and could truly appreciate dedicated equipment that, along with a reliable gun cleaning solution, helped make the job easier, faster, and more efficient.

After an honorable discharge, it has been 11 years of various challenges and setbacks for Dakota Adcock to finally bring the R-TOOL to life. I successfully navigated three careers to afford the ability to produce the R-TOOL, which I dedicated my time, effort, and energy to design. I am now proud to present what I consider to be the Original R-TOOL, a top-tier gun cleaning solution.
